Wasted
A group of friends are living together in suburban Perth. They are all drug users and live mostly off Centrelink benefits. They are into the ‘club scene’ and regularly go clubbing all night, and relish getting wasted, not just using alcohol, but also party drugs. They have a standing arrangement that the one who wakes up with the least hangover buys the first round of drinks the next night. One night, Lucy overdoses and is taken to the hospital, but dies not long after arrival. Together, the others make a pact that they will give up the drugs. On top of this, they must each deal with their grief and the other issues life has thrown at them. As a memorial, they decide to tell Lucy’s story for a magazine article, in the hope that it will prevent other people’s lives from being wasted.
