Holding Space
What happens when the person who spends her life helping others finally has to work out what she needs?
At 40, Alex takes a risk: she leaves a secure career to study social work. Over the next eleven years, we follow her through challenging clients, workplace frustrations, family complications, new relationships, and the occasional very bad dating-app decision.
Holding Space is a warm, honest, and often funny play about the messy reality of caring for others—and the unexpected ways people change each other’s lives.
Tender without being sentimental, serious without taking itself too seriously, Holding Space asks: who holds space for the people who hold space for everyone else?

Presenter
Presented by: Marlequin Productions
Marlequin Productions was formed by Perth playwright Liz Flanigan as a vehicle to present stories about resilience, connection and hope. Liz is a playwright, writer, teacher and chaplain whose work explores the complexity of human relationships and the moments of humour and connection found in difficult circumstances. Marlequin Productions’ inaugural production, Disharmonies, enjoyed a sell-out season at FRINGE WORLD 2025. Through her writing, Liz aims to create accessible, thought-provoking theatre that makes audiences laugh, reflect and recognise something of themselves in the stories being told. Holding Space is Marlequin Productions’ second production.Social media
