Cakes and Canes
Ruth is vision-impaired. EYECONIC is her flamboyant alter ego: loud, glamorous, unapologetic and determined to take up space. At a chaotic birthday party thrown entirely for herself, EYECONIC and Ruth collide in a hilarious battle over identity, disability, culture, confidence and the assumptions we make about ourselves and each other.
Blending comedy, cabaret, storytelling and direct audience interaction, this solo work explores what happens when the different versions of ourselves refuse to get along. Who gets to define us? Why are we so quick to put people in boxes? And what does it take to move beyond the surface-level labels we use to make sense of each other?
Joyful, absurd and deeply personal, EYECONIC is a celebration of contradiction, self-expression and the messy process.
