“No idea what I just saw”
This was an unpolished mess. However, I love the 'late night show' format.

Ebsworth Tonight NSFWA delivers fearless satire, side-splitting humour, and searing social critiques in a comedic variety show that brilliantly parodies late-night talk shows with a West-Aussie spin. Patrons can expect a high-energy mix of stand-up comedy, live skits, pre-recorded sketches, dance routines, and the lively studio band, the Y2K Bugs.

The show presents a familiar late-night TV talk show style, complete with an immaculate set, glitzy performer attire, and a live band that immerses the audience in a true 'live studio' experience. The ‘studio’ audience is greeted by the impressive vocals and energetic Y2K Bugs, firing up the crowd with millennial-era anthems.

Host Colin Ebsworth and co-host Sam Cribb deliver hilarious, thought-provoking commentary on current affairs and news since this show last toured. They explore social media trends, Australian politics, and WA quirks, alongside candid insights into the challenges faced by WA artists. A standout feature is the use of pre-recorded sketches featuring the hosts and other comedians parodying cooking shows, DIY reality TV, and crime dramas.

A personal highlight was the segment ‘Keeping Up with the Morrisons’, which provided a hilarious reality TV style spoof based on the day-to-day life of our ex-Prime Minister ‘ScoMo’ and his family.

Tonight’s guest, Perth comedian Ayden Doherty, captivated the audience with raw, no-holds-barred humour, sharing personal anecdotes about love and relationships, and unexpected advice on spicing things up with a visit to a certain shop just down the street in Northbridge.

“Not Safe For WA”, a clever play on content warnings, reflects the show’s late-night humour and edgy comedy while tackling WA’s deeper issues. Cribb’s investigative journalism and Ebsworth’s stand-up monologues highlight the disparity in arts funding between states. Limited support redirects local talent interstate or forces artists to conform to mainstream notions of art.

The narrative arc builds to a playful mutiny and temporary role-reversal between the host and co-host, providing opportunity to highlight the importance of those working tirelessly outside of the spotlight.

Ebsworth Tonight NSFWA* is a thoroughly enjoyable late-night experience - perfect for comedy lovers, those who appreciate edgy humour, and anyone passionate about supporting the WA arts.
