Just when you thought Perth couldn’t get any hotter, Sideshow Femmes Presents: Candy Shop.

These femmes throw caution and extreme risk ratings to the wind with their unique mixture of angle grinders, hula hoops on fire, and twirling apparatuses on fire. Basically, you sit down at the Planet Royale and then “bam” everything is on fire.

This show has major “Wow” factor, Veronica took to the stage to twist, contort and do all kinds of flexible things and given that her act was centred around cake she did it with both panache and ganache.

Scarlett Tinkerbell’s take on fairybread was confronting, kinky and delivered with a fearless ferocity that left the audience viscerally responding.

The lighting was effective and atmospheric and the sound levels were set to “immersive” at all of the right times throughout the show.

Fiona Firebird stormed the stage as a sizzling sailor and delivered fire emojis all around as she danced to “I Want Candy”.

Sparkarella was described as your “sleep paralysis demon as she boldly took an angle grinder” where no angle grinder should ever go. Some audience members were clearly affected by the heat as Rammstein set the scene for an act with both intensity and skill.

Each performer and the stage manager who made guest appearances with a vacuum cleaner were very talented and they were introduced with colour by our Master of Ceremonies for the evening: Sophie Delightful. There were spectacular aerial acts and one act by a performer characterising a snake that was positively mind-blowing.

Transitions between performers needed some more polish in terms of physical transitions and verbal introductions but each act was engaging and well worth seeing.
