In fact, it was one Englishman, one Scotswoman and an Aussie, and what an awesome threesome! If you’re looking for a laugh (and be prepared for it to be at your expense), then Rory Lowe, Gill Cordiner and Dave O’Neil will deliver. There’s no better tonic than laughter and, on exiting the show, I felt I’d been suitably entertained on a satisfying cocktail of jokes and jibes. The pace was quick and engaging, and all three comedians cleverly interacted with the audience, quickly identifying targets, as comedians are want to do!

Rory hit the ground running with an amusing overview of his surroundings. His high-energy delivery meant he moved quickly from one subject to the next, ensuring the less well-received ones were quickly left behind.

Gill went into bat for the fairer sex, almost balancing the gender mix, with some amusing observations of the less-than-desirable habits of some (read ‘many’) of the opposite sex. I do feel Gill’s joke, that intimacy after 50 is a bit like hummus – she’ll take it but won’t seek it out – is a bit unfair on hummus! That notwithstanding, it was very amusing!

Dave O’Neil closed the show, and he did so with the skill and ease of a seasoned professional. He entered the stage a shy boy, refusing to make eye contact with his audience (obviously for comic effect); built up a highly amusing rapport with a number of unsuspecting targets; and left the stage a new-found favourite for many - well, me at least! How much of his material is pre-determined, and how much is made up on the spot (demonstrating an enviable talent) we’ll never know, but one thing is clear – he’ll remember your name, so watch out! His comparisons, between current trends and those in decades gone by, were spot on and very funny and demonstrated his cross-generational appeal.

All in all, the show provided a delightfully indulgent distraction from the usual Saturday afternoon chores but be prepared for some naughty (but not too naughty) jokes about the pleasures, or otherwise, of sex!
