Arriving at the meeting point on the corner of James Street and Parker Street in Northbridge, everyone was in good spirits. And by everyone, I really do mean everyone. The group consisted of young children, teenagers, adults, parents, grandparents, families, friends, work colleagues, and people who probably didn’t even know what they were in for.
We were all given our headphones and were eager to start grooving along to the music as we waited for everyone to arrive. Once we were all there, we were introduced to our fearless leader, Guru Dudu. After a few safety instructions, he led us in a short introductory dance warm-up. The vibes were immaculate.
The start time of 6:30 pm meant Northbridge was buzzing with people just starting their Friday night out. The walking tour took us up James Street, down Lake Street, through the Northbridge Piazza, continuing down James Street, up William Street, and back down to end in Yagan Square. Guru Dudu sets a manageable pace with plenty of stops along the way to perform simple choreography to the delight of onlookers.
Our music included everything from the 70s all the way up to the hits of today. A highlight was when the whole group paused and sang the lyrics of “Can You Feel It” by the Jackson Five to random people because we just wanted to ask them a question. It felt like we were part of a flash-mob!
Guru Dudu’s Silent Disco Walking Tours is a fun and inclusive activity that is sure to help you shake your cares away.
This is something everyone should do in their lifetime!
