Oh my God, she’s back again. Lisa Woodbrook returns to Fringe with an ode to the anthems of Generation Y.
You know when you were a kid and at a sleepover your friends would make you watch their choreographed performance of their favourite track from So Fresh: The Hits of Spring 2002? That’s exactly what MILLENNIAL: Hits of the 90s & 00s is like. Except they aren’t your friends, they’re in their 30’s, they’re really talented and command a stage with the confidence of someone who has absolutely no regrets about their LimeWire downloads.
Lisa delivered powerhouse vocals with ease, even on challenging tracks including Britney Spears’ Toxic and Cher’s Believe. Backing her up were two incredibly talented dancers, serving the kind of moves we all wished we were pulling off at school discos. They didn’t just hit every beat; they brought the full pop-star fantasy, complete with boy-band slides, impressive acrobatics, and THAT Spice Girls dance.
The setlist is a millennial dream, packed with iconic tunes that transport you straight back to your Discman days. But this show isn’t just about the music—it’s a full-blown millennial experience. Woodbrook sprinkles in plenty of banter about the struggles of adulthood that kept the audience laughing between bangers, making it feel less like a performance and more like a night out with that one friend who always hijacks the AUX cord (but, in this case, you’re glad she did). From Zoomer to Boomer the entire audience loved this show, deeming it worthy of a standing ovation.
MILLENNIAL: Hits of the 90s & 00s is a night of nostalgic fun, all for less than the price of the smashed avo you Ubered to your parents' house last weekend (because that’s where you live because you’ll never be able to afford a house). An absolute must see for anyone who ever had a password journal, burned a CD, or knew all the words to Unwritten.
