Saturday’s heat had the crowd clutching their cold beverages and lingering at the periphery of The Sewing Room, awaiting Meadowlark’s new show – A Cappella Dance Party. Having not seen a Meadowlark show previously, I didn’t know what to expect. Two friends joined me, and we picked a spot relatively close to the stage.

As the curtain dropped, we were met with a great deal of sparkle. Meadowlark launched into their first song, and I was mightily impressed! Stephanie Gooch, Kate Humphreys, and Sophie Rogers delivered brilliant harmonies, made all the more impressive by the fact that they swap parts from song to song, and each take turns in delivering the lead vocals. Danica Brooks led each song with precision on the drums. The arrangements were excellent and showcased the talent and versatility on display. The variety of songs chosen did exactly what they’d set out to – create a dance party!

It took a bit of effort to warm up the 6.30pm crowd, most of whom were at the start of their night out, however Meadowlark were not deterred, and it wasn’t long before the first two bold dancers took to the front of the dancefloor. From this point toe-tapping turned to dancing as much of the crowd joined in.

Meadowlark have this beautiful ability to deliver a high-quality performance, while also making the crowd laugh as we joined them in belting out a tune. Dancing the Nutbush was, as Kate described, joyfully reminiscent of a school disco. The medley towards the end of the show was a particular highlight for me. The song selection was perfect, and the transitions between each song of the medley were seamless. The element of surprise, as each new song began, had me grinning.

I highly recommend this show. Go with the intention to not take yourself too seriously and get involved from the first song. You’ll leave feeling nostalgic and uplifted. Thanks Meadowlark for an incredibly enjoyable show!
