About this event

POV no 1. It’s 1984. You are 13 years old, fiercely competitive, equally obsessed with theatre and boys. When you are not imagining your first kiss you are listening to pop records, reading smutty novels and dreaming of being cast in a musical.

POV 2. It’s 2025. You are a 54 year old professional singer and mother of four who has turned her actual teenage diaries into a cabaret show and podcast. Cointreau-fuelled midnight feasts, Latin exams, lost knickers, lacrosse, auditions and boys boys boys!

Join DivaLicious Penny as she revisits her misspent but idyllic youth through the iconic hits of the 80s, Madonna, George Michael, Aha, Lionel Richie, Nina, The Cure, Queen and more. ”1984 - Diary of a (teenage) Diva” is the perfect show for anyone who has ever been a teenager.

Accompanied by Robert Graham in Northbridge and Joe Louis Robinson in Rockingham.

Presented by:
Daisy Productions

Penny decided to become a singer at 13, as recorded in her 1984 diary and this show was inspired by her popular podcast of the same name, Diary of a (teenage!) Diva. Since moving to Fremantle in 1999 Penny has sung with WA Opera and she has also worked extensively for Freeze Frame Opera as a singer, MC and as a director, receiving a Performing Arts WA Award nomination for Best Director in 2023.
As the brunette half of comic opera duo DivaLicious she has reached the finals of Australia’s Got Talent, taken three shows to the Sydney Opera House and was a winner of a Weekly Award for Best Cabaret in Fringeworld 2023.
