We’re committed towards improving our sustainability footprint at FRINGE WORLD Festival and the introduction of our Rent-A-Cup project will go a big way towards this goal.
We’ve listened your feedback about our reusable cup process and we’ve improved it to make it a smoother process for patrons and to increase the sustainability of our reusable cups.
How does it work?
The Rent-A-Cup program is currently in place at The Woodside Pleasure Garden and Girls School.
When you purchase a poured drink, you’ll receive a reusable cup and pay a $2 deposit. If you choose to return to the bar for another drink, you can bring your cup back up to the bar and we’ll replace your cup with a clean one.
At the end of your visit, you can choose to claim your $2 deposit back at the Cup Caravans or you can bring your cup to thepurple bins at the entrance/exit and use your cup to vote for a charity of your choice.
What do I need to know?
- If you’re getting another drink, bring your cup with you up to the bar and it’ll be exchanged for a clean one
- If you wish to claim your deposit, please hold onto your original receipt or quote the last four digits of your credit card number at the Cup Caravan
- If you’d like to use your cup to vote for a charity organisation, please return your cup to the purple bins at the Cup Donation Station situated at the entrance/exit of The Woodside Pleasure Garden/Girls School
We’ve added the Cup Donation Stations to the entrances of The Woodside Pleasure Garden and Girls School in response to your suggestions.
The Cup Donation Stations promote three charity organisations; Ruah Community Services, Solaris Cancer Care and Lifeline WA, for our patrons to support. If patrons do not wish to claim their deposit, they can simply leave their cup in the container of the charity organisation of their choice. The cups will be reused and at the end of the Festival, $3,000 will be split between the organisations, with the organisation with the most cups receiving $1,500, $1,000 for second, and $500 for third If there are donations above the total $3,000 then the remainder will be distributed fairly amongst the charities with 60% going towards the organisation with the most cups and so on.
The Cup Donation Stations will reduce the lines at the Cup Caravan and service patrons who choose not to claim their cup deposits back.
What are the organisations?
Ruah Community Services
Ruah Community Services has been supporting and empowering vulnerable and disadvantaged people to create positive change in their lives for more than 60 years. The Ruah team supports around 3,500 people each year – delivering tailored, wrap-around support for people experiencing homelessness, family and domestic violence, mental health issues and, as a result, needing legal advice and support.
Solaris Cancer Care
Solaris Cancer Care is a community-based healthcare organisation. Their Cancer Support Centres are the first of their kind in Australia, supporting over 10,000 West Australians.
They offer integrative complementary therapies, education, support group and counselling to individuals with all types of cancer, at every stage of their cancer journey from diagnosis to survivorship and palliative care.
Donate to Solaris
Lifeline WA provides all Western Australians experiencing a personal crisis or thinking about suicide with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services.
Lifeline WA aims to prevent suicide, support people in crisis and reduce stigmas around mental health and suicide, which can be a barrier to people seeking help. The 13 11 14 service is free and available to anyone and everyone
Why can’t my cup be refilled?
As part of our COVID Event Plan, we aim to reduce the contact between used cups and fresh cups served to other patrons. This is why we swap your cup at the bar and have our cup shoots.
Where do the unclaimed cup deposits go?
The unclaimed deposits will contribute to the split amongs the three charity organisations.
Why do I need my receipt?
We request proof of purchase to claim your deposit back. Keeping your receipt ensures all patrons have the ability to claim their deposits if they wish.
Can I keep my cup?
For 2021, the main aim of the Rent-A-Cup program is sustainability, therefore, we ask patrons to please do not take the cups home to help us be a more sustainable festival.
How are the cups washed?
They are washed with eco friendly dishwashing sanitisation products in a water saving cycle and then returned to site each day to be reused.
