Our Decked-Out Bars

We’re stoked to have two beautiful new bars this year at The Woodside Pleasure Garden, and we thought we’d let you in on some behind the scenes design facts!

The Giniversity bar features a unique and stunning wooden design, but did you know that it is made almost entirely from repurposed wood?

Creator, James Hastings used ply and timber from old pallets and repurposed Fringe structures like former stages, promotional towers, bar floors and even old floor extensions from The Edith.

Our new Madfish Bar is a sight to behold – with gorgeous native flowers blooming from this lush garden bar.

Madfish’s brand new Prosecco celebrates Western Australia’s diverse local floral landscape, from its flavours to the Australian native flowers featured on the packaging. This served as inspiration for this opulent bar’s design for Western Australian floral artist, Lara Rose Bos, who created this 'garden':

"I was very excited to be invited to grow a garden for FRINGE WORLD to celebrate the release of the first grown and produced Western Australian Madfish Prosecco. The branding for this delightful new bubbles is very colourful & floral with a strong native wildflower presence. Creating a semi permanent botanical install to match for a month in peak summer outdoors was quite a challenge as there is sweltering heat to contend with and very little wildflowers in bloom this time of year.

Therefore we decided to crafterly combine real fresh, dried preserved and silk materials. We used lots of native foliage like Eucalyptus and Acacia which dries beautifully as a base. We then wove dried and dyed banksias, proteas and leucadendron amongst this. To bring the extra colour required and represent Perth's semi tropical environment we added touches of exotic and tropical silk flowers amongst the native natural material. The final touches were gold painted gumnuts and bottlebrush stems with textural lichen covered branches. This really brought the luxe and wild textured vibe. To complete the picture, as this was an install to celebrate sparkling wine we adorned the front of the bar with bunches of grapes. The result was a lush cascading abundant garden that enveloped the bar....As you step further away from the centre bar area we used more muted and natural materials on the archways. This results in the Madfish Bar appearing as an oasis amongst the dried sunburnt landscape of our Australian landscape.

It was such a pleasure to bring my botanical art to the big smoke and Perth fringe. Connecting city folk with the beauty of the natural world I feel is very important and it brings me such joy. " - Laura Rose Bos
