FRINGE WORLD Festival will open registrations on 6 July with artists and venues encouraged to take part in the popular annual arts event.

Presented by the non-for-profit registered cultural charity ARTRAGE, CEO Sharon Burgess said that the open-access Festival was an opportunity for artists to shine and local businesses to engage with new audiences.

“Anyone can participate in FRINGE WORLD and I'm excited to see what new shows and venues will choose to register for the 2022 Festival,” Ms Burgess said.

“The open-access platform of the Festival results in a huge variety of show genres, that are presented from artists all over the world including emerging artists and professionals at the top of their game. Venues can register with shows they have produced or they can showcase their venue to our artists and see what comes about.”

The Festival is also an opportunity for unusual and non-traditional venues to participate in the Festival, which enables the local businesses with access to the large FRINGE WORLD audience, with more than 460,000 free and ticketed attendances occurring in 2021.

“Some of the more unusual venues that have participated in FRINGE WORLD in the past include a swimming pool, wineries, hotel rooms, boats, cathedrals and even a cemetery. It’s an exciting time when we see new venues register, as it means that the people of Perth get to experience their city in a whole new light.”

Ms Burgess confirmed that ARTRAGE would be presenting two FRINGE WORLD Hubs in 2022, The Pleasure Garden in Northbridge and Girls School in East Perth, with programming of the venues taking place through application.

“It’s the artist that chooses where they want to perform. They can apply to be in a Hub venue, connect directly with a venue of their choice or select from one of the venues that registers with the Festival; it’s a world of opportunity open to them!”

Event and venue registrations open on 6 July. Sign up to the FRINGE WORLD e-news for notification when they are open.

ARTRAGE released its Impact Report on 2 July, which features the economic, social and cultural results of the 2021 FRINGE WORLD Festival.

The 2022 FRINGE WORLD Festival will be held from 14 January to 13 February. The first tickets will go on sale to FRINGE WORLD Friends on 20 October.
