FRINGE WORLD is a magical time of year and a chance to escape the every day, but as much as we enjoy putting on the Festival for our community to enjoy, we acknowledge that we do so at a time when there is a tragedy unfolding on the east coast of Australia.

We want to do our bit to support the people and wildlife affected by these devastating fires, and we have been following the incredible outpouring of support from Fringe artists wanting to do the same.

We are proud to announce that our FRINGE WORLD community has come together for an evening of hope on Monday 20 January at 7.30pm at the happy FRINGE WORLD Hub, The Ice Cream Factory.

To The Bush With Love - A Very Fringey Fundraiser is an epic variety event resulting from an incredible collection of artists and crew alike, all volunteering their time, talent and skills to give audiences an evening of joyful escapism and support recovery from the ongoing fires.

With acts spanning the best music, comedy, magic, circus, cabaret and burlesque acts from Perth and around the world, working side by side with Perth's arts community including graphic designers, publicists, photographers and independent producers, 'To The Bush With Love' is definitely one very Fringey fundraiser!

The line-up features world-class award-winning magician and mentalist Matt Tarrant, Famous Sharron, WA's own critically acclaimed circus company Kinetica, ginger glamonster Gingzilla, plus jazz age sounds from Swingin’ at the Savoy and much more.

Those working tirelessly behind the scenes include independent producers Flash in the Can, backdoor productions, APK Productions and Just Mumby.

Flash in the Can Producer Anita Kazmierczak said "The fires have been devastating across many parts of Australia and sitting in the city of Melbourne, with smoke haze hanging in the air, I wanted to do SOMETHING to help. So I hatched the idea of a benefit show on the Perth FRINGE WORLD artists Facebook group and had an incredible response from so many artists wanting to donate their time and talents to help too. Thank you to FRINGE WORLD for being so quick to respond and for their generosity with the venue, staff and promotion, to help this event make as much money as possible for local WA and interstate human and wildlife charities."

Tickets for 'To The Bush With Love' are available from here and are $30 for General Admission and $50 for VIP. 100% of ticket proceeds donated will be split equally across two charities; WWF's Australian Wildlife and Nature Recovery Fund and Red Cross Australia. Furthermore, FRINGE WORLD Festival will also be making a donation of $10,000 towards this artist fundraiser.

FRINGE WORLD Festival Director Amber Hasler said, "The compassion and generosity of our artists is quite humbling and we are so proud to help support this initiative. Despite the tragedy unfolding, it's evident that Australia's spirit has not been broken and it's heartening to see everyone come together to help those communities in need."

Alongside the artist event, FRINGE WORLD is also facilitating donations from this website and all FRINGE Box Offices, where from now until 26 January, customers will have the option to add a donation to their ticket purchase. 100% of ticket proceeds donated will be split equally across three charities, all at the frontline of delivering vital services to people and wildlife:

  • WIRES - www.wires.org.au
  • NSW Rural Fire Service - www.rfs.nsw.gov.au
  • Victorian Bush Fire Appeal - www.vic.gov.au/bushfireappeal

Artrage Inc, producer of FRINGE WORLD, also announced that its outdoor cinema Rooftop Movies, will contribute to the organisations' fundraising efforts. A special screening of the iconic Australian comedy The Castle will take place on Thursday 16 January, with 100% of ticket sales going to WWF, to care for injured wildlife and aid to restore forest homes to our koalas. Tickets are from here.

Artrage Inc CEO Sharon Burgess said the FRINGE WORLD and Rooftop Movies seasons marked an invaluable opportunity to make a significant contribution to relief efforts.

“It is incredibly saddening to see the devastation these fires are wreaking on the east coast and to see so many people and communities suffering,” she said. "As an organisation, Artrage Inc is all about bringing people together and supporting communities through shared experiences. These fundraising initiatives are another way of doing just that."

You can play your part by purchasing a ticket for 'To The Bush With Love' on Monday January 20, or the Rooftop Movies' special screening of The Castle on Thursday January 16. Bring your buddies and help us raise as much as possible!
