Perth Drag Artists
Drag is an art form that has existed since ancient Greece and has recently skyrocketed to mainstream popularity.
This gender-bending performance art has made its way into Perth’s heart and is now a big part of the FRINGE WORLD Festival.
Keep reading to meet some of Perth’s hottest Drag Artists, find out what Fringe shows they’re involved in, and how they’re celebrating Pride this weekend.
Alexas Armstrong / Karl Kayoss
Alexas is your friendly neighbourhood drag queen, Connections Nightclub & The Court Hotel showgirl. Karl is your boy from Ballajura boylesque performer and Mr Boylesque Australia 2017.
During Fringe, Alexas and/or Karl is performing in Circus After Dark, Sinsuality: Make It Reign, FILTHY, P!nk: The Circus, and Drag Diva Spectacular: Good Times.
This weekend you can find Alexas/Karl running around Connections Nightclub celebrating their 30th birthday, enjoying the shows they helped choreograph, and having a blast with the community.
BarbieQ
BarbieQ has been in the industry for over 20 years and has been dancing since she was 13. She has performed in front of over 100,000 people.
During Fringe, BarbieQ is performing in Dolly Parton: Here I Come Again, Drag Diva Spectacular: Good Times, P!nk: The Circus, Sinsuality: Make It Reign, and FILTHY.
This weekend, she’s having her first Pride off in over 10 years – it’s about time she gets to celebrate!
Cougar Morrison
Cougar is not only a Drag Queen, but is also a star of the musical stage, a comedian, and a loveable psycho.
You can find her at Fringe in two shows - Spectacular, Spectacular! and FILTHY.
For Pride weekend, Cougar Morrison is performing at The Court Hotel’s Street Party.
Danisa
Danisa is an Indo-Indian drag artist new to the scene. Danisa also won Best New Drag Talent last year, along with Justin Sider. Danisa performs with the intention to empower and represent for the QIBPOC community.
You can find her at Fringe in FRINGE FREAK OUT!, Jungle Fever, Ginava’s Messy Friends, ARCANA: The Devil’s Temptation, and BIPOCITY – Unity amongst Diversity.
This Pride weekend, Danisa is performing at Tiki As Fk.
Dean Misdale
Dean is one of the few Australian drag artists who sings live. They are also a DJ and musical theatre performer, recently staring in Priscilla The Musical at Crown Theatre.
At Fringe, you can find Dean performing in DIVAS: The Drag Revue and Life’s a Drag – The Sequel.
To celebrate Pride this weekend, Dean is performing at DJing before the pride parade and then at Tiki as FK in Northbridge.
Fay Rocious
Fay is one of Perth’s leading ladies, taking out five awards at the 2021 Proud Awards.
You can see Fay Rocious at Fringe in DIVAS: The Drag Revue, Drag Diva Spectacular: Good Times, and for the first-time ever playing a full-time madam of the night as the host of Club D’amour.
You can find her hosting every Wednesday and Friday at The Court as their head drag queen, at Connections Nightclub hosting bingo and performing on the main stage. This Pride weekend Fay will be headlining The Court Hotel’s Street Party.
Flynn V
Flynn V is a drag artist that has dived into the world of burlesque. His unique style of drag performance with his captivating androgynous aesthetic and the way he leaves audiences questioning more than just their sexuality.
At Fringe, you can find him performing in FRINGE FREAK OUT!, Ginava’s Messy Friends and DIVAS: The Drag Revue. FRINGE FREAK OUT! is his solo producing debut.
During Pride weekend, Flynn V is having some time off to celebrate with friends and get a little loose – keep an eye out for him when you’re out on the town!
Ginava
Ginava, known for their Avant Garde costumes and gendermess style of drag, they have made a name for themselves since taking the title of the first Queen of the Court 10 years ago.
You can see Ginava at Fringe in Ginava’s Messy Friends and FRINGE FREAK OUT!
For Pride weekend, Ginava is performing at The Court Hotel’s Street Party and Tiki As Fk alongside Danisa Snake and Dean Misdale.
Justin Sider
Justin Sider is a Perth Drag King awarded Best New Drag Talent in 2021. Justin is paving the way for drag kings in Perth and increasing the representation of trans and non-binary performers in the industry.
At Fringe, you can find Justin performing in Dickless.
This Pride weekend, Justin will be performing at Cherry Bomb on Friday and spending the rest of the weekend celebrating.
