In this Q&A, we chatted to Kyle about the endless quarantines he’s endured to arrive in Perth and perform at FRINGE WORLD Festival.
Chatting with Kyle Legacy

You’ve made it to WA! (yay!) Can you tell us what the last 24 months have been like for you as an artist?

Better late than never I always say! The last 24 months were terrible, you don’t even want to know what I had to do for money! Nah it wasn’t too bad, funny always finds a way. Laughter is the medicine after all.

We’re sure you’ve done your fair share of quarantine, how do you pass the time?

I lose a lot of money on basketball & football bets then drink until I forget about it, then I watch the UK and the US office and compare their version to mine which is the Liverpool Office (never made it to air).

Have you got any tips for anyone needing to quarantine for the first time?

Make sure you have a lot of vegetables. And for the love of God, pack your HDMI cord or you’re going to be watching everything on your laptop even though there’s at 50-inch tv screen behind you.

Get ready to find out who your real friends are when you’re trying to FaceTime them for 12 hours a day because you’re so bored. DO NOT CONTACT EX GIRLFRIEND!... Especially my one.

We hear you’re on a mission to meet LeBron James (with your very own podcast: The I Want to Meet LeBron James Podcast), have you got any leads?

Sure am! One day we will be best friends and I’ll give up comedy to focus on being a full-time rebounder for LeBron James – that’s the real dream. I was meant to meet him this week but I’m in quarantine so will have to reschedule. Rules are rules and all that. I’m heading to USA in October so hopefully I’ll get to see him at a Lakers game.

So you’re the World Record Holder for most gigs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with 230 in 24 days, what is the story behind this? Was it a goal or an accident?

It was the night before the Edinburgh Fringe kicked off and few comedians were talking about who had done the most gigs. We found out after messaging the runner of the free Fringe and a few older comics that the most shows was 215. I said that’s easy, I will beat that. My mate said no you won’t, and I said watch me. I just did it to prove him wrong, the idiot.

Your show is a completely improvised stand-up comedy show – how do you rehearse for this and can you tell us a bit about what runs through your head on stage?

Well as you know, jokes are for cruise ships, so to stay original I do a ‘crowd-work’ hour where I riff a whole show about what’s happening in the room during the show. I was born with funny bones, so I’m a natural! Well, that isn’t true. I used to be terrible for years, but three years ago I just woke up and I had figured out comedy.

Lastly, What’s your favourite overused COVID joke?

That COVID is the new Chlamydia because when you get it you’ve got to immediately call up all your friends and tell them you have it.

Kyle’s show opens this Sunday and is running for an extended period to make up for lost time during the Festival. Check out King of Comedy (UK).
