Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues is a theatrical favourite being performed on stages all over the globe. Ensler’s collection of stories celebrating female experience and female sexuality are remarkably relevant and relatable to just about everyone: old, young, big, small, flappy and tight! Even if you don’t have a vagina, this show is still entertaining and educational and well worth a watch!

What makes this rendition of The Vagina Monologues unique is Lit Live’s tweaking of the script to make it more applicable to an Australian audience. With a few nods to Perth culture and the current political climate, the show captures your attention from the very first few lines.

In an intimate setting and with a light backing track, Alexandria Steffensen, Lauren Thomas and Sarah McNeill perform the Vagina Monologues exceptionally. Each actor leaps from one character to the next; each with ease and grace; each as convincing and sincere as the next. The actors are truly talented performers. As they tell the tales of women around the world, the audience is totally transfixed and willingly taken on a rollercoaster of emotions.

This powerful show is one that you can watch again and again. No matter what stage you are at in life, you’ll find a story that resonates with you. If going with a partner or friends, it’ll provoke discussion. If going alone, it’ll promote reflection. The chance to watch The Vagina Monologues should be seized at every opportunity.

Just don’t forget your tissues!
