This is such a good show for any lovers of ABBA and Mamma Mia!

Anyone alive during the 70’s would know of the absolute behemoth that is ABBA. Their songs transcended the decades and is still beloved by many to this day. This show offers the perfect opportunity for fans of the Swedish pop group to bask in a throwback tribute.

More than just for lovers of the pop group sensation, ‘Girls Gone ABBA – The Sounds of Mamma Mia!’ riffs heavily off the movie franchise with a littering of references and quotes and a set-list pulled right from the screen.

Alive with humour, passion and heart, the ladies gave the audience a performance that reminded us of all the fun that both ABBA and Mamma Mia! gave us. Stellar singing from each member of the group, accompanied by outrageous costumes harkening back to the era of disco, had the audience on their feet singing and dancing along.

There were more than a few attempts to include the audience, and it was mentioned these were spontaneous which very much felt the case. At times this interaction felt clumsy but it was no less charming for it and provided a good-natured laugh.

The tone of the act yo-yoed between sombre and heartfelt with songs like ‘The Winner Takes It All’ to upbeat and funky with songs like ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)’. This was to be expected of a band performing the diverse selection of songs in Mamma Mia!, but the five ladies brought the right amount of energy and passion to each one and truly helped the audience feel part of the show.

Braving the sounds of ABBA is no small feat, and for the performers to deliver each song to the standard they did is to be highly commended. If what you seek is a show that delivers great vocals and great fun then look no further. The ladies have done Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni proud.
