As stated at the beginning of the performance, “art is subjective” and so is comedy.
A host prompted the four performers with 10 slides each of famous artworks. A lot of the artworks (which will differ for each performance) weren’t famous and some were bizarre. The concept of “b*** s******* about making a famous artwork and trying to get people to buy it” is clever. However, the execution was weak and had poor time management.
While the audience looked uncomfortable for a majority of the show, there were some funny jokes during the 50 minutes.
Looking around the room, there were various reactions to the lowbrow jokes from each of the four performers. There is a huge difference between non-PC jokes which are funny for everyone and hurtful, offensive insults. After the halfway point, the audience mood was tense during the middle of the performance.
As the show had gone overtime, the ending was rushed for the fourth comedian and the audience were not engaged to “bid” on any of the artworks.
The host was a great tying link and worked to get back in the audience’s good books. However, I feel the concept would be better refined with a set timer on stage to sell as many artworks as possible versus a set 10 artworks, the show would be enjoyable.
