Deep under the Blue Room Theatre lies a little secret. Hiding in Rehearsal Room 1 is Perth’s biggest and brightest retro party hosted by the one and only Double Denim.

Most people remember their early high school parties (for better or worse) and Double Denim will transport you right back in time to relive them.

Double Denim is singer-comedian Michelle Brasier and dancer-comedian Laura Frew. Brasier is perhaps best known for her long-running collaborations with Australian comedy team Aunty Donna, it makes sense as both groups deliver an immediately infectious high energy.

It’s this very energy that will get you onside Team Denim as soon as the show begins.

Like all good parties, Double Denim features non-stop singing, dancing and party games (from Pass The Parcel through to Seven Minutes In Heaven).

They’ll also take you on elaborate detours including absurdist dates hosted by a crustacean waiter and art pieces based on beep tests.

Just be prepared to have Shania Twain continue playing in your head for days afterwards.

Brasier and Frew make inspired collaborators. They’re constantly working hard to propel the show quickly forwards without ever letting that level of fun drop.

It helps that they both hold strong skills in audience interaction, so be prepared for them both to invade the crowd early and often to keep everybody feeling involved. Even on a Wednesday night, the audience was only too eager to take part.

This is all due to the team’s absolutely winning personalities and their ability to seamlessly combine wild improvisation and cleverly scripted writing.

Double Denim is an absolute sugar high of theatre and the comedown only comes once we’re heading home.

There may not be a more fun show around at this year’s FRINGE WORLD. Double Denim, I had the best time at your party.
