As a die-hard Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings fan, I was excited to see each universe face off in a comedy showdown, so I was quite disappointed in the show we ended up seeing.

While some of the acts had merit and were entertaining, it became apparent that most of the line-up hadn't read the books or watched the movies from either series, instead trying to fill a set with context from seeing memes on the internet, or facts that are common knowledge.

That's not to say that none of the acts were entertaining, thankfully some performers had put in the time and researched their bits, either perfecting voices or filling storylines with undocumented character journeys which elicited laughter from around the room.

There was also a delightful comparison of Perth locations to fantasy worlds, don't we all think that Morley could bear a resemblance to Mordor? I mean where did the characters actually end up after the story ended?

While the concept has potential, it would be great to see a bit more time and thought put into the execution. It's the start of the season, so hopefully this show takes the chance to improve their sets, and perhaps do some research on one of the two extensive universes that they're supposedly inhabiting.

So if you're a die-hard Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings fan, this probably isn't the show for you. But if you know a little, or nothing at all of either world, but enjoy a course, cheap kind of humour, you'll probably still get a few laughs out of your evening.
