This is a lovely little show.  David Callan has a wonderful relaxed demeanour and delivers gentle whimsical anecdotes with his soft Scottish accent.

There’s something about a Scottish accent that lends itself to comedy.  I don’t know whether it is the ‘Billy Connolly effect’ but David is a worthy upholder of Scottish pride in this area.

It’s a very agreeable sort of humour with David frequently looking to the audience for like-minded support for his experiences.  A lot of his tales are self-deprecating but not overly so and between bursts of laughter there was much nodding going on.

It’s not rolling about on the floor humour or punchline dependent, in fact the telling of the story is as important to the entertainment as the destination and there are some great observations along the way.

David’s theme is essentially his experiences in Australian and in WA over the last couple of years.  A lot of every day stuff with the humour and the pathos nicely drawn out.  It is easy to imagine yourself having a chat with David and just swapping tales.

There is a bit of toilet humour and the odd expletive but all delivered in a very natural way, even when touching on digestive processes!

I was disappointed when he had to finish, running out of time rather than exhausting his supply of stories and I could easily have listened to him entertaining us for another couple of hours.

His style is waggish and I think he is going to be around the local comedy scene to regale us with his stories for many years to come, especially as he let us know he recently married a WA girl!

Come and have a listen while he is at FRINGE WORLD. I definitely recommended, especially if you like Scottish accents.
