Josh Earl is warm, energetic and engaging in Josh Earl Talks.

Josh is a FRINGE WORLD veteran perhaps best known for his original comedy/musical act. In this year’s instalment we see Josh put the guitar down and just talk.

And he is worth listening to. Josh takes us on a fast, full-on, 60 minute ride down memory lane in a self proclaimed ‘Marvel origin story’ way – but this time it’s about a kid from Bernie, Tasmania learning about family, love and chance encounters.

The show is a wildly well woven narrative with quick tangents to add colour and rhythm.

Josh perfectly encapsulates what it was to be a kid growing up in Australian 80s suburbia – from school lunches, ‘religion’ class and sex ed – and does so in a way that goes beyond his generation and geography.

He knows what to tap into and how, like the almost universal experience of visiting the Gold Coast on a family holiday as a kid, only to be left part disappointed but mostly confused.

The show ultimately boils down to Josh’s family and the impact of a series of chance encounters – but is perfectly framed to avoid a ‘life story’ vibe and embrace the plot twist to have the audience simultaneously gasping and crying with laughter at the same time.

There is truly something for everyone in the show – it’s a lot of laughs, a lot of love, a little bit of dirty talk and a lot of local council info.

In the midst of social commentary theatre, gender bending circus and a plethora of sequins at FRINGE WORLS Josh Earl is refreshing, uncomplicated, giggle inducing, guaranteed good night out.
