Comedy for the Curious educates as much as it entertains, using humour and interest to ignite intrigue and nurture both latent and pre-existing passion for the biological sciences. Robyn Perkins & Gavin Nicklette join forces to amuse and fascinate their audience with all things cute and cuddly, and everything slimy and sluggy.
Robyn (an ex marine biologist turned comedian) and Gavin (the self-professed Lady Gaga of the jazz world) bounce organically off each other and the audience, referencing a variety of scientific studies as they crack jokes, share facts, and spark intense animal-preference debates. Their witty conversational banter is effectively enhanced by a variety of amusing visual aids including photographs, literal graphs, and artworks created by the multitalented Robyn herself.
Breaking out into song intermittently throughout the show (accompanied by Gavin’s musically accomplished fingers) this dynamic duo change the lyrics to well known songs, creating educational earworms that will live rent free in audience members’ minds forevermore. This energetic animal extravaganza is brimful of educational goodness and scientific weirdness, teaching its young audience about oxytocin, cerebral folds, and butt-faces. Interactive elements include real time data sampling (more fun than it sounds) and a generous sprinkling of animal-themed games, some of which pit the entire audience against Gavin and his feline favouritism.
Memorable moments see individual audience members join the punny presenters onstage for fun (and funny) competitions. Every interactive element hilariously incorporates biological knowledge and creativity, turning scientific standup into standout scientific fun! There are so many educational elements cleverly woven throughout the performance, facilitating myriad moments of incidental learning. Comedy for the Curious is the perfect Fringe experience for excited children, vicarious parents, and animal lovers of every age.
