Gravity Dolls have come all the way from Melbourne to bring their circus cheer to our doorstep, and they’re well worth a watch! If you don’t have time for this whole review, let me sum up it up in just a few words: goodhearted, wholesome, emotive, impressive circus fun and perfect for families with children of all ages!
The audience is welcomed with a stage set with a huge claw and some other rather odd apparatus. Curiosity peaked, the show begins and continues to boggle our minds. With no apparent storyline, each routine feels even more random than the next! The audience is consistently kept on their toes wondering what on earth will happen in the following scene. It goes without saying that these performers are extremely talented. They can twist and turn in and around the big claw with such grace that if you didn’t know any better, you’d think it was easy!
The floor routines are a great mix of impressiveness and fun and keep every member of the audience flabbergasted as each performer showcases their talents in unison but in completely different ways – I’m alluding especially to the tennis racket routine which had me wooing like an owl and then immediately cackling like a kookaburra! Humorous interludes keep the audience giggling along throughout the show – the person next to me was in hysterics and very obviously tickled with the funny voices in the Cluedo-esk sections.
Towards the end, the different scenes are a little more tranquil with the clever use of magical fairy lights and softer music. The tricks and circus displays however continue to grow and grow even more impressive until the ending climax that has everybody on the edges of their seats.
Overall, a fabulous show that I’d definitely recommend to families with children of all ages and abilities. As an example, my one-year-old and her little baby friend sat through the entire hour absolutely transfixed – I couldn’t quite believe it! Also important to mention that the music wasn’t too loud and the lighting wasn’t too vigorous so it’s a great show for people with mixed abilities or sensitivities.
As mentioned previously, a very wholesome, goodhearted show with outstanding circus performers and family-friendly fun! Go go GO!
