For all trivia-crushers and music-lovers young and old, all the way from his home-state of South Australia, Dr Antony Hubmayer (aka Dr H) brings to Perth an eclectic questionnaire with musical flare! With a rotating roster of songs every night, Dr H creatively connects well known anthems with closely related questions, that were widely variable and led to many surprisingly educational moments throughout the night.
As the Emcee and sole Piano Man, the honourable Dr H was extremely personable and energetic, bringing similar vibes like that of a fun uncle or family member that is guaranteed to bring the joy and charisma to any gathering. It should be commended that he also made the effort to meet and talk with every quiz table and audience member, checking in to make sure everyone was having a good night, as well as spruiking the venue and his other upcoming music-filled Fringe performances.
Audience participation, such as singing, dancing, and calling-out answers, was encouraged to enhance your experience (amongst other things that could earn you extra points in an unregulated points system), however there was no pressure applied to any unwilling participants, which allowed everyone to relax into the casual, and sometimes chaotic, flow of the night.
Whilst the rowdiness may be considered overwhelming for those fearful of audience interaction, or potentially frustrating for any serially competitive quiz-goers, the Singalonga Pub Quiz gives plenty of room for belly-laughs and good-hearted fun, with the prizes of pride, goodwill, and rounds of applause, up for grabs.
Overall, the conduct and atmosphere of the Singalonga Pub Quiz definitely made for an enjoyable night out and is not a quiz to be missed if you’re looking for an opportunity to belt out some vocals or show-off your worldly expertise!
