Came on a Valentines date and it was the right amount of facts, humour and interaction. If you didn’t get a ticket to this show you really missed out. I hope they do it again next year Knowledge, laughs and a bespoke gin and tonic?! What more could you want

It is another sizzling summer in Perth, and what better way to escape the heat then with a refreshing cocktail? A fragrant Apricot Rum and Soda cocktail to be exact. Well, that’s what greeted me when I entered frisk small bar Northbridge for Cocktail Lab by Frisk Small Bar. A very warm welcome indeed, and possibly the only acceptable one during a heat wave.

The Award-Winning Cocktail Lab by Frisk Small Bar, features host with the most and bartender John, an Irishman who certainly has the gift of the gab, along with an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things alcoholic. John took us through the various spirits used in a variety of different cocktails and other beverages, it stole their virtues, and how to use them, expert Lee assisted by the wonderful Grant, who went out of his way to ensure that every member of the crowd was able to fully. The show is extremely interactive, with the audience able to ask questions, test their knowledge. and engage all of their senses.

For the finale, the audience, who were spread over three tables, was asked to produce the name of a destination, a movie, and a song respectively, with which John would devise a brand-new cocktail. Tasmania, Deadwood, and Bohemian Rhapsody were chosen and became the inspiration for ‘The Last Samurai.’ A cocktail featuring vodka, gin, apple juice, lime, ginger, and wasabi. To be honest, it didn’t really look that appetising, but it tasted quite nice. Which just goes to show that it’s what’s inside that counts.

Unfortunately, it can be a tad difficult to hear at times though, as the bar is still open to the general public, and the show is not in a closed off area. Also, the background music was a bit distracting. However, is a very enjoyable show, (even if you are not a big drinker), and a must-see for wine and spirits buffs. Plus, you get a free cocktail so YAY.
