Recycle that, would see again
“Recycle that, would see again”
Kate is always so engaging. My daughter had a great time learning interesting facts, and she went away to look up and learn more about dinosaurs, microcosms, fungi and skin receptors. We also liked how well Kate read the room and didn't embarrass the quiet kids as they were simply allowed to be there and listen, yet the active ones were given space to talk and interact.

What do you get when you cross a comedian with a scientist?

Kate Smurthwaite’s informative yet hilarious Fringe show Evolution Revolution.

Kate kicks off the show by introducing the different types of apes, and each audience member is given a sticker based on which ape they identify with. How do you identify with an ape? Well, I’d tell you, but I don’t want to give away any spoilers!

Once everyone has chosen their ape, the audience is divided into teams and the evolution quiz begins. Kate shares an array of quirky and fascinating facts about evolution, keeping things lively with her comedic flair. She peppers the audience with questions, and if you guess correctly, your team earns a point. At the end of the show, the winning team even gets a prize.

The show was incredibly engaging, and I learnt so much about evolution that I hadn’t known before. For instance, did you know that mushrooms aren’t vegetables and are more closely related to humans than to veggies? Mind-blowing!

My eight year old absolutely loved the show (especially the lolly prizes!), and I’d recommend it for kids aged eight and up. Younger children might struggle to grasp the concept of evolution, but for older kids, it’s a fun and educational experience.

I’d definitely recommend this show. It’s not every day you take your kids to a Fringe performance that doubles as a science lesson. It’s a win-win for both parents and kids!
