Destined for stardom ‘If you’ve got it, flaunt it.’ Elouise Eftos has and she does.
What a breathtaking show! Elouise possesses seemingly endless talent – dancing, singing, acting, a degree from WAAPA, eloquence, intellect, abundant sass. And attractive? Well, just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder so comedic attractiveness is in the mind of the punter, and she certainly won us over, maybe even from the moment she stepped on stage.
The show is part stand-up and part set pieces and there is no let-up – she even runs off stage for her costume changes to keep the pace going. One of the themes is that Elouise likes to differentiate herself from the ‘normies’ (that’s us living our humdrum lives), and there were some piercing, yet somehow affectionate, observations about what sets her apart from the rest of us.
Elouise also likes to ponder her feminist credentials set against the delights and challenges of attracting wolf whistles. But does it really matter if she can make us laugh?
Among the many highlights for me were when Elouise amped up her acting and dancing skills: a superb parody of a much-loved scene from an infamous Sharon Stone movie; a brilliant lingerie clad robot dance; and a series of audience participation scenarios where Elouise adopts the persona of various female stereotypes to interact with the chosen acquaintance with mixed, but generally hilarious, results.
Elouise’s delivery is so swift and smart that you have to be alert or you’ll miss something - so I don’t think Elouise should be too upset if not everyone gets all her jokes/comments. And seemingly all her material found it’s mark with at least a few among those present. There is no doubt that Elouise Eftos is a star on the rise.
Catch her at FRINGE WORLD so you can bear witness to her magnetism before she goes mega.
