What’s not to love about this show? Comedy - win. Science - win. Explosions - win.
It is definitely a crowd-pleaser and one for the whole family to enjoy. It was a gradual windup working around the audience, but once mad scientist Magnus Danger Magnus’s engine was warm, KABOOM! was truly an explosion of madness and excitement.
Magnus cleverly and comedically eked out everyone’s inner-scientist – peaking the curiosity of the youngest in the room, and returning the oldest back to the days of failed experiments and explosions in high-school science labs. From ‘science wee’, to the ‘naughty results bin’, the show was a crazy ride on the mad scientist experiment train.
At the end of each station it left you wondering, what is Magnus going to do next? Set yourself on fire? Yes. 2,500 volt explosions? Yes. Gargantuan amounts of elephant’s toothpaste? Yes. All amounting to one thing - wishing you could see more, wishing there was more time, wishing you could join Magnus on stage and sprinkle ‘dust’ into water to see what happens.
A self-declared neurodivergent, Magnus told the crowd that school turned something so cool into something so boring – and the love of science came later. Thankfully, creators like Magnus and shows like this exist, providing an exhilarating, electric and alternate funnel to physics and chemistry, and potentially being the inspiration for the next generation of scientists.
There’s nothing like exploding bits of metal into thin air to get your motor running! KABOOM! was one part educational, one part crazy and one hundred parts fun. Be prepared to block your ears and enjoy the show, it’s a gold star (or five gold stars) from this corner.
