Oh my goodness, I laughed until my abs hurt, and then I laughed some more! Thank goodness I skipped ab day at the gym before going!
It was a full house, sold out show and I’d say my plus one and I were 2 of maybe 10 people in the venue that weren’t healthcare workers, but it didn’t matter one little bit. We were sat behind a row of dolphins with one proud penguin in the middle (sitting as far away from the Orcas as possible).
Their reactions to the nursing stories really added to the laughter (although the penguin was unimpressed at the idea of being offered as tribute for kidnapping!). For those unfamiliar, Nurse Georgie Carroll is a former nurse from Manchester who now calls Adelaide home. In saying that, being a nurse is a state of being rather than a registration, ED warzones change the fabric of DNA and so while the material is now not as nursing centric as it was 15 years ago, there is a reason that the room was FILLED with healthcare professionals.
In the space of an hour - which went oh so quickly - Nurse Georgie took us on a rollercoaster ride of laughter. If the show was rollercoaster, it was the Space Mountain of comedy, we were in the dark and literally had no idea where she would take us next! There were stories of nurisng, parenting, marriage and relationships - all of which had me dying to know what happened next. The great thing is that this is a work in progress show so anything I write about may not be in the next show and there may be new material added.
They say laughter is the best medicine and Nurse Georgie Carroll certainly made sure everyone got a good dose of medicine and an extra dose for good measure.
