It takes a certain kind of entertainer to firstly, engage with the children, and second of all, keep the adults in the room enchanted as well.
Cue some hand-hurting high-fives, balloons and a banging soundtrack and you have got yourself a winning FRINGE WORLD show. A very self-explanatory title, The Giant Balloon Show with Dizzy O’Dare, is just that.
You can tell that Dizzy is no newbie to this arena, and the crafting of this show and the interaction with the audience was finely tuned.
Whilst we waited for the giant balloon, the precursor to it was a series of backyard balloon clowning tricks amidst some kind of 80s disco. An interesting mix, but very effective at entertaining the younger people in the room, and at the end of the day that is what we are there for.
The hero of the show – the giant balloon – is truly of epic proportion, and one does wonder what compels someone to see if they can fit inside it in the first place. Nevertheless, what is a giant balloon show without a giant balloon, and what good is a giant balloon if you can’t get inside it? A giant balloon with someone’s head inside it can only be described as some kind of headless chicken in reverse. But at the same time, it was highly amusing, comical and oddly mesmerising.
Van Halen’s ‘Jump’ will now forever be etched into memory with some interesting images, and that’s all before Dizzy completely disappears into the enormous latex abyss. As for the rest, well, you really have to see it for yourself.
