Barbie proves not only her top-tier devotion for Dolly but also her unmatched hostess skills: it is easy to see why her shows are repeat award winners at FRINGE WORLD and beyond. This is a funny, easygoing, classic Perth drag production crafted with love and reverence. The show rolls seamlessly through a stacked setlist and draws together a beautiful mix of ballads and bangers, new and old. There are Dolly Parton tracks performed here that you will never have seen at a drag show before. BarbieQ is a dedicated fan and has managed to weave in a generous splash of 2023’s Rockstar Dolly.

Alexas Armstrong and Donna Kebab also grace the stage at various points throughout, expanding the Dollyverse to join Barbie for some delightful and unexpected duets. A special shout-out should go to Caleb as well, who was a fabulously bejewelled Kenny Rogers stand-in. BarbieQ is often surrounded too by a talented and enthusiastic group of backup dancers whose energy and spirit never let up. As a group, they are endlessly fun to watch and it is difficult to not want to join in the music (which is encouraged, and yes I sang my little lungs out to Islands in the Stream).
