Something different – a show performed simultaneously live on stage as well as on screen! Clever, fast paced, quite absurd physical comedy. I am probably not so much into retro special effects as some, and found the heads blowing up a little repetitive, but overall entertaining enough:)

'The Umbilical Brothers' are a much-loved comedy act, and they do not disappoint!

This duo has their own genre of comedy, using cameras, props, and green screens to display a surrealist performance for their audience. They don’t waste any time, already displaying jokes on screens whilst the audience settles into their seats. It takes a lot of technique and skill to perform the way that 'The Umbilical Brothers' do, as every camera shot and editing effect has to be perfect in order to convey the out-of-the-box comedy show that they produce.

There are no slow moments within ‘The Distraction,’ with the comedians linking each joke together in a fast progression, so there is never a dull moment. As they include an array of segments within the show, there is something humorous for all crowd members. The audience consistently chuckled at the silly physical humour that would build up the jokes and break out in an eruption of laughter when the final punch lines hit.

The audience was involved in the act and it felt incredibly unpredictable in the best way. The comedians were able to seamlessly use each participant within the show to uplift the jokes. This makes each performance slightly different from the last, and the audience gets to have the green screen and special effects used on themselves.

David Collins and Shane Dundas are clearly seasoned professionals, as areas that may cause slip-ups within the show were used to elevate certain punch lines and acts. They are exceptional at using the live aspects of the performance to their advantage and witty enough to think on their feet for improvised moments.

When it comes to 'The Umbilical Brothers' duo, it is clear that their years of experience summon an engaged and amused audience. They utilise all the skills they’ve accumulated over the years, mime, sound effects and technological knowledge, to display an entertaining and amusing comedy show.
