HANS: DISCO SPECTACULÄR is a teleportation into Hans’ camp and extravagant world.
Accompanied by backup dancers/singers, a live band and a full suite of audiovisual effects, Hans delivers a high-energy show of polka-inspired drag cabaret.
With the sensory overload of glitter, dancing and live music, there was a risk of the show becoming gimmicky. However, Hans' musical talent cuts through the novelty to strike the right balance of showmanship and artistry. Hans has carved out moments to show off his training in piano and accordion, demonstrating that behind the costume is an accomplished musician.
If his musical ability wasn't enough, Hans' quick quips and natural audience interaction prove his extensive experience as a performer. Not only did Hans pick out multiple people from the audience to have a chat or a joke with, but he remembered every person's name and continued to refer back to them with clarity and assurance.
Throughout the show, Hans’ joy was infectious. As he sang and danced through the hour, I could not help but sing and dance along with him. Not only did I have a great time, but Hans seemed to help me overcome my fear of 80’s trends making a comeback. As I watched the sequin-encrusted performer strut his stuff, I couldn’t help but think that anything, including bright blue eyeshadow, looks good with enough confidence behind you.
Now, if you're a good-looking man (heck, if you're a man under the age of 50) you will not be safe from potential audience participation. However, if you are lucky enough to be pulled up on stage, you will be guaranteed a good time (and, most likely, whoever you came with will have an even better time).
HANS: DISCO SPECTACULÄR is pure fun. This is a great show for those who do not want to see anything too risqué, but will nevertheless enjoy some flamboyance and flare.
