Melvin takes the audience on a story-telling performance journey through the rich history of the hit music of the 50s, 60s and 70s. Born in Cincinnati Ohio, Melvin tells stories of his own youth and how he joined the ranks of the most famous entertainers of the 20th century.

With a completely pitch-perfect rendition of hits from Jackie Wilson, Lloyd Price, Fats Domino and Ray Charles, Melvin is as smooth as silk. His dance moves are iconic and he replicates with pin-point precision the Bojangles tap dance through to the Michael Jackson moon walk.

The audience was thrilled by the memories evoked by the classic toe-tapping hits. There was dancing in the aisles, clapping and woo-hoos! Rock and roll mixed with R&B has never sounded so good live.

If you’ve done the maths, you’ll know that Melvin has lived through some difficult times in the USA. As he described it, “It wasn’t rough, it was just BAD”. With calm humour, he shares some shocking racist attitudes and events he has endured throughout his life.

Not only has Melvin overcome many barriers to his success, he has conquered mountains many could not. He is an accomplished tap dancer, clogger and male revue dancer.

Above all, it is his voice that gives the audience a real gift. A clear view into the fantastic history of black music in America and its contribution to worldwide culture.

Melvin is a master who lived this journey and we are lucky to have him generously share it with FRINGE WORLD this year. The audience won’t soon forget Melvin’s infectious laugh, storytelling and mostly, his music.
