Ballroom Blitz was a dazzling affair, boasting a cast of excellent dancers, a wonderful live band and helpful staff. The ballroom, with sparkling chandeliers, really set the stage for something grandiose. I've never seen ballroom dancing live before, and it did not disappoint.

With the grace and elegance of the dancers on full display, sparkling costumes and a dash of humour, it's truly an experience. There's also a mini-competition where the couples battle it out for the audience's affection. And if that wasn't enough, the audience also gets to take to the floor for a little ballroom dance lesson. This immersive part of the show really does make everyone feel engaged, and special and gives them a newfound appreciation for the professionals.

The live band is also a highlight, with Matilda the vocalist guiding the audience through a brief history of ballroom dance and captivating us with her soaring notes. There are creatively reimagined jazz covers of songs such as 'You Don't Own Me' and 'My Heart Will Go On' which were quite entertaining. The styles are mostly ballroom and Latin with a short segue into something like burlesque jazz, but not quite (well, that was the song they used).

With the sweeping movements of the dancers, the glamourous dresses, and the fantasy of dancing in the ballroom coming to life, it's truly romantic. I fell in love all over again with dancing (and my girlfriend) during the particularly dreamy 'Moon River' waltz. But whether you're a ballroom aficionado, you want to live out your high fantasy dreams, or simply pretend to be a member of the bourgeoisie, you'll want to attend this show.

Dust off the bow tie or evening gown, and get yourself down to the Reagent Ballroom... You might even leave with a new hobby.
