Amazingly talented performers who obviously enjoy their work. This show and Candy Shoppe take burlesque in a fun and accessible direction. Will keep a look out for Sophie deLightful and Scarlet Tinkabelle at future Fringes.

Queensland powerhouse Sophie deLightful makes her FRINGE WORLD debut with late-night adults-only cabaret deLightfully Debauched, a variety show maybe, nay definitely, even hotter than Perth’s scorching temperatures this week.

Indicating the performers are more than willing to lean into the very ridiculous, the opening act is scored to “Tits on a Tricycle”, an honest-to-goodness real song, and has three of our artists, Ariel Onyx, Scarlet Tinkabelle, and Veronica Waite, riding on the Royale Theatre’s stage with one tiny tricycle between them. Absolute comedy gold.

Local guest artist for the night, Kitty Litteur, continues the comedy, via scuba-diving suit by way of burlesque. On a forty-degree day outside, no less. So much energy is taken getting into the suit backstage, that it takes several moments of audience participation to help her out of it. It looks exhausting, but totally comical at the same time.

Veronica Waite returns, heating up the venue with stage manager Lila Koi, a divine pole act, and a riding crop. From the athleticism on the apparatus to the easy, languid chemistry the duo have and the obvious Dom/sub vibes, to the final moments of the routine, passionately locked together, this is a remarkable performance, but perhaps not one to bring the church bake sales team to.

And, probably the standout act of the night, Sparkarella with an absolutely phenomenal piece on the ballet barre. Neck to toe in a black bodysuit with a peekaboo cut-out right over the posterior. Scored to the hard-pounding, heavy industrial beat of Grace Jones’ “Corporate Cannibal”, it brought to mind the seediest underground dive bars and kink clubs. Simply stunning.

Sophie deLIghtful herself holds the microphone as Mistress of Ceremonies and designated cabaret singer, displaying a fabulous voice, strong stage presence, and the quickest of wits when engaging the audience or fellow artists.

DeLightfully Debauched is equal parts utter camp and scorching sensuality. The comedy pieces, the cabaret, and the art are all fantastic. Here at FRINGE WORLD for a good time, not a long time. So, get on the tiny tricycle and savour all the inside heat these performers will give.
