Reality TV’s loss is Fringe’s gain with Dean Misdale’s new iteration of Life’s a Drag.

An Australian Idol, X-Factor and The Voice wannabe turned Perthonality, Dean is delivering a unique Fringe show filled with drama and fun.

Return audiences will be excited to hear the show is choc-a-block full of hits from parody songs to rock to ballads, all belted out in Dean’s trademark sassy style. For new audiences, you’ll be wowed by Dean’s talent.

This isn’t your typical drag show though. Not only is every song sung live, as opposed to the lip-syncing more typical of a drag show, but the focus is very much on Dean’s vocal talents. There is minimal banter with the audience, and there’s not a narrative arc to the show either.

For most audiences, this show is definitely pushing more into the ‘music’ category than the ‘comedy and variety’ or ‘cabaret’ categories.

Importantly though, Dean has the voice to carry this kind of show. Their vocal range is huge and confident, with so much joy injected into every number, it would be hard not be swept up in the fun.

A highlight for the audience was Dean’s rendition of ‘Fame’. It was dripping in irony and fuelled by passion. While they introduced it with a bit of tongue-in-cheek, by the end of the song the audience was totally living the Dean dream.

The choreography, gorgeous dress and Barbie-esque shoes gave a polished feel to the whole show, and it was elevated hugely by the four-piece live band – again, not what you’d usually expect from a drag show.

This show is pure wholesome fun, with music for all tastes. While it’s not as high energy as other drag shows, it’s a crowd-pleaser and a great show to take all your family friends, from Fringe newbies to Fringe fanatics.
