The Giant Balloon Show does exactly what it says on the tin. Dizzy O'Dare is a charismatic host who leads the audience into many balloon-themed skits.

There were flying balloons, humans with balloons on them and balloon artistry. His engagement with the children (who appeared to be on the younger side) was great. He actively went to different sections of the stage to choose children for different sections of the show. The audience was encouraged to cheer on the “unofficial photographer”, “the balloon bin collector” and the audience favourite “human statue” (who ended up as a moving balloon design). It wasn’t enough to simply clap and cheer. The audience was fully engaged into loud whooping, Mexican waves and it was easy to be caught up in the positive momentum.

Dizzy also remembered to engage in the adults who come to the shows with good music choices and a few sneaky adult references. Dizzy’s music choices were 80s favourites which would please most dancing aficionados. The audience was consistently satisfied with no dull parts during the show. While we were encouraged to take photos and videos in the audience, I rarely saw anyone not looking at the stage to see what would happen next.

However, as seen in the promotional pictures, Dizzy knew people were coming for the main event, man inside a balloon. On this part, Dizzy did not disappoint. As his grand finale piece, the audience were treated to a unique performance as Dizzy got inside the giant balloon. It could have been a simple “get inside the balloon” but there was song, dance and a bit of theatre thrown into the mix. For audience members with energy to burn after the show, they can go to the centre stage and enjoy some dancing with Dizzy.

The only question I had before (and after) The Giant Balloon Show was “how can one man do so many different things with balloons?”
