You’re a magician, Barry!
Be amazed and amused. Barry Potter and the Magic of Wizardry tells a story set in a magical world we know and love, with references to characters you know and love too. If you’re a Potterhead you’ll really enjoy the multitude of quotes and evolving storyline.
However, sometimes it is set so deep in the universe that it’s a struggle to follow if you’re not a part of the fandom. That being said you can still appreciate the magic itself (when it goes to plan!) and the quick wit and humour of the performer, Tim Motley. Unfortunately, the show I attended did not go entirely to plan and a few tricks fell flat with the audience, including my 10 year old niece and 7 year old nephew. But that’s show biz!
Barry Potter and the Magic of Wizardry seems unsure of who its target audience is- adults or kids. Some tricks are straightforward like simple coin magic and others are not even illusions at all, just amusing puns or references to the movies. Despite this show not being the most refined act the host has a certain charm that entertains the young and old. The tricks are clever and some will have you wondering if magic really does exist! An enjoyable show for Potter fans.
