You can't go wrong with the music of Aretha Franklin, and you definitely can't go wrong seeing and hearing Claire Fahie and her band play the timeless songs of the Queen of Soul live. If Aretha was the Queen, then surely Claire is a princess? She commands the room with her powerful voice, yet is so generous to her 9-piece band as well, who all slid in behind her with a tight, faultless funk groove, a bluesy wail, the soaring gospel or a pulsing boogie.
The big songs are all here: I Say a Little Prayer, Think, I Never Loved a Man, Son of a Preacher Man, You're All I Need to Get By, (You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman and of course, Respect. And you will (Can't) Get (No) Satisfaction.
The audience was shaking and grooving to the music from the first song to the last, and in fact, many had got up to dance well before the last (encore) song when everybody was up a shaking their hips. How can you not when the Queen - Princess - commands you to do so?
All of which is to say that if your soul is moved by Soul and the hot Perth nights get you a bit down, then you should hit 'book' now and allow Claire and her soulful troupe to lift your spirits high. Forgive the puns, but my soul was moved to say them.
