Review by Giorgia Beasley | 21 January 2024

It’s always nice to see a familiar face, but when it’s Bernie Dieter – nice is a bland understatement. Bernie is an absolute stalwart of Fringe Festival, selling out shows and embarrassing audience members for seasons on end.

But her 2024 show has brought her trademark energy to a whole new level, and you’re not going to want to miss it.

What Bernie has put together is above and beyond anything she’s shown us before.

She opened the show belting out a Beatles cover, reeling the audience in like no one else can. She had us hook, line and sinker with her opening bits. The scene setting was so funny, you just wanted to buy into the narrative to feel apart of it.

Her boundaries with the audience are truly non-existent, quickly becoming one with the crowd and easily picking her targets for audience interactions. Her knack for getting the most out of a crowd is honestly second to none.

Our first guest act of the evening was an aerial talent, and they were seriously world class. Imagine an Olympic level of athleticism meeting the Fringe frivolity you know and love. It’s mesmerising and will absolutely leave your jaw on the floor.

What followed were creative and unique circus acts like nothing else. These performers are so unique, so really must see it to believe it. Don’t look it up on Instagram – go in person.

A clear highlight for our huge Saturday night crowd though, was Bernie’s wholehearted drinking shanty. Her passion and humour with have you stumbling out into the night ready to live your best Berlin bohemian life.

If you only see one show this Fringe Festival – make it this one. It’s got something for everyone and it absolutely screams fabulous fun. Maybe just don’t sit too close to the front if you go with your dad.
