Are you aged between 44 and 59 and feeling excluded by Boomer vs Millennial comedy? This full-belly-laugh hour of stand up is for YOU!

You may know Dave O’Neil from his record-breaking amount of appearances on Spicks and Specks, but in person on stage is where his generation-gap comedy truly shines.

O’Neil quickly engages with his audience, finding allies with those who share his 80s youth and his current age-related dilemmas.

The banter seems casual and yet it’s tailored to the room. O’Neil’s experience is evident as he expertly weaves his storytelling literally using the names of audience members. His self-proclaimed bogan persona belies his quick wit and clever writing, hidden inside the funny episodes.

O’Neil is self-deprecating but not to a fault. His relatable narrative relies on his own life experience and ranges from dating in the eighties, to parenting and the aging process. The audience nods along as they laugh loudly, acknowledging the humour found in the familiar. Cheeky current affairs references are sprinkled in, as are local shout-outs. The audience can only agree that performing comedy in remote WA towns is a unique experience for a Melbourne local like O’Neil.

Dave O’Neil makes stand-up look too easy, but credit where credit is due. Only a smart, experienced comic can command a room, deliver a story yet include unpredictable input from the audience and leave everyone with an endorphin-induced grin.

It’s fantastic to see comedy greats like O’Neil amongst the FRINGE WORLD line up. Dave O’Neil’s gimmick-free, laconic laughs are a tonic and recommended as a cure for grumps. Get out to see the show while you can, in either Perth or Fremantle venues.
