Back for another Fringe, Champagne Showgirls unveils a range of new creatures found on the byways of the performing arts world for our delectation and arousal of the senses. Be it on the floor, among the audience or in the air, these performers command your attention with their athletic and balletic grace, when not playing - literally - with fire. Their aim is to tease and seduce, leaving you wanting more, which is certainly the case by the end of the 90 minute show. It was over all too soon.
Hosted by Sophie Psaila-Savona, who can belt out a tune including a very good cabaret/cocktail lounge version of Bon Jovi's 'You Give Love a Bad Name', each act showcases the performers manifold skills, be it an extra sexy flamenco, the deliriously gay 'Eat Candy', the aerial work with acrobatic bar, ropes or lyra. The aerial work in particular was spectacular, showcasing strength through grace and lines of bodies in their prime. It was certainly appreciated by the packed house, who where whooping with delight.
So, for a hot Perth night, it is worth getting hotter with the hottest of acts that even the ice in the champagne bucket will be unable to cool (well, for me, anyway).
