Exploring themes of the creative process, collective queer trauma and the audience/performer relationship, MESSY FRIENDS invites you to share in their infectious sense of fun and creativity.

From the mind of Gendermess Productions, this show will have to reconsidering what you think you know about drag. It is clear that no two performance will be the same, with special importance placed on energy exchange with each audience. The chemistry between the performers during the group numbers is palpable, but also endearing as you’re introduced to their offstage friendships and creative connections.

A highlight by far is the incredible costuming, which takes advantage of colour, movement and texture in exciting and innovative ways. Think The Pale Man from Pans Labyrinth if he slayed. Costumes come apart and together in intriguing ways, with props and movement telling as much of a story as the traditions of drag lip-sync.

If you can, sitting front row makes for an engaging experience as you’re cheekily encouraged to take photos and videos throughout the performance, allowing yourself to be in awe of the bright and bold performance in front of you. You will find yourself laughing, screaming and dancing along in an environment which is both welcoming and dazzling.
