Lloyd Langford may be absolutely sick to death of going to playgrounds, but we're never sick of his funny antics. The smooth-talking Welsh comedian has delivered a punchy stand-up show that will have you tearing up and clutching your sides throughout the hour-long performance.
The Have You Been Paying Attention? star was well and truly in his element up on stage at the Comedy Hub inside Johnny Fox's. I brought along a friend who had never seen a live comedy show before, so we sat up the front for the full experience—and boy, Langford delivered.
The running theme for the show was his experiences as a new father. A particularly funny skit about playground dad rivalry was interrupted by a crying newborn baby in the audience. Langford's incredulity and wide-eyed reaction made his exposition all the funnier, with his struggles to get back on topic dissolving the audience into giggles.
His experience as a comedian was reflected in the ease with which he delivered jokes and participated with audience members. Langford dipped his toes into some particularly controversial topics over the show, including anti-vaxxers, the royal family, and breastfeeding. Several times you could feel the audience hanging on to his every word, tensely waiting for him to say the wrong thing. But he managed to expertly tiptoe the line every time and get a good laugh out of the audience, making you think, 'did he really say that?'
His strength lies in turning the unexpected into comedy and delivering punch lines that shock you into laughter. By laughing alongside everyone on stage, Langford gives you the endorsement to laugh at particularly hard-hitting jokes.
This is stand-up comedy at its best.
