High energy, satirical, and downright bizarre, Paradise! A Cool & Smart Show is the perfect show to finish off your FRINGE WORLD 2019 season.

Barney and Matt (Barney Pollock and Matt Young) are on the train to Paradise – and this is where the journey begins.

Populated with other passengers all travelling in twos, Pollock and Young switch seamlessly between characters and carriages in a series of sketches that are fun, messy, and chaotic.

As they eagerly make their way to the promised land, they face their fears, do some dancing, meet the infamous Ice Cream Man (Tim Quabba), and become best friends in the process.

Paradise! has the quirkiness of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with the downright kookiness of The Mighty Boosh – a unique brand of absurd, gross out humour with an existential bend.

Pollock, Young and Quabba are unsophisticated, unpretentious and not afraid to get their hands dirty.

With a myriad of hilarious popular culture references as well as a good dose of Perth-specific gags, you’ll be in stitches from the start, even if you aren’t 100 percent sure why.

Despite the seemingly flippant appearance of the show, there is some character development that you can’t help but find rewarding.

The blossoming friendship, the coming-of-age, the realisation of what’s important in life are just some of the deeper, more reflective parts of the show that make it feel like more than just an hour of unmitigated insanity.

Pollock and Young have managed to balance absurdity with depth – a feat which very well may become their signature approach to theatre.

One thing is for certain, Paradise! A Cool & Smart Show is unlike any other show you’ve seen this season. It’ll make you laugh, it might make you cry, and it will definitely have you wondering what on Earth is going on.
