Performing on the scenic waters of the Swan River, Bush Poetry will take you back to yesteryear with its poems and stories of Australia. Hear tales of drovers and vagrant and farmers, all wrapped up neatly in rhyme.

With a different selection of poems and a different group of performers from WA Bush Poets & Yarnspinners Association each time, each event is unique – but the delight felt at all of them will stay the same.

If you worry that poetry is pretentious or boring, then Bush Poetry is sure to change your mind. In true Aussie style, this is a close space, the performers speaking directly to you rather than standing atop a stage. You cannot help but picture yourself hearing these tales around a campfire, or the yarns at your local pub.

Performing repertoire from a wide range of artists both old and new and with rhymes that please the ears, Australian poetry cuts to the heart of the matter.

Some of it is sure to make you laugh, with tales of workplace footy games and farm stays gone wrong, or yarns a mile long that cannot possibly be true.

Some may make you sentimental, as they reminisce of the old days long gone, or muse on the beauty of our bush, or even remember the harsh past of our nation.

You may even be treated to a musical interlude of harmonica and song, seamlessly integrated into the poetry.

With three poets taking turns to tell their stories, each piece is new and you’ll never be quite sure what to expect next – something to make you laugh, or something to make you cry?

Either way, you’re sure to be delighted, listening to poetry and story as you sit back and watch the water of the Swan River.
