Billed as the BADDEST show in town, it's not bad at all, but definitely bad-ass. With that tumble through the definitions of 'bad', I can say that the Showhouse Perth are a troupe of talented female dancers, who power through a very dynamic set of routines in breathless fashion.

From slinky grooving, to fetish/kink club writhing and thrashing, to a couple of great numbers to Michael Jackson's 'Bad' and 'Smooth Criminal' (with his moves), the Showhouse Perth ladies fill the room with titillating feminine energy that had the Volstead air-conditioning working overtime.

Unlike burlesque or cabaret, there is no MC, no individual being the dominant personality, but all six dancers given equal time on stage, usually 2 and 4 at a time, because the Volstead performance space is quite narrow, with a shallow stage and runway. That does mean that the audience is very close to the stage and performers and the sound very loud ( I switched my hearing aids off). Nevertheless, distinct dancing personalities emerge, such as the tap-dancer, the hula hooper using a programmed LED hoop to dazzling effect in the dark, the one who sang her number and special mention to what I assume was a guest performer: a man who was sitting in the audience (very near me) brought up to electrify the stage with a powerhouse of high-energy moves. It is always wonderful to see someone be their true self on stage.

Which brings me to my one criticism: no names. I personally like knowing who everyone is so I can follow them on their creative journeys to other shows (performing arts being what it is, you work where you can get it). But it's well worth your hard earned to seek out the Showhouse Perth either at this show, or others in the future if what I've described sits right in your wheelhouse. It certainly is mine.
